Feather- Grow old but don’t grow up.

My given name is Lorraine, I prefer Lainie or Feather (my Byron Bay name). I have 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

I have been on my own for 16years, my husband died in 1999. We were married for 45years.

I have a magic life and it is still unfolding.

Sun on my back, sand between my toes, all is right in my world.

I am 79years old, a Sagittarius and I live in Byron Bay.

BY THE SEA written by Feather.

It’s a long way from the beach at Cronulla to the beach at Byron, but with a few detours Ive made it. Only 63 years, not to bad.

Ive always lived close to the sea, so it’s not much of a sea change.

The sea was the backyard for my 6 children growing up in Manly, after school fish and chips on the beach, fishing of the wharf, the boys going to Manly surf club.

We turned around one day and they were grown ups, almost as old as us. My best mate in 1989 wanted to go on the Land. After 35yrs of marriage I followed him along. Goodbye dear old Manly.

We settled at Federal, a village in the hinterland of Byron, with 5 acres on top of a hill. The lighthouse and the sea in the distance. We had gone back to the land, restored an old Queenslander and one by one the kids travelled North and settled. We had a great 10 years on “First Light Farm” were we planted lots of trees and memories.

Suddenly my mate passed on and I had to go on alone. We spread his ashes on the four corners of the property so he’ll never leave his beloved land. I sold up and moved to Byron in an apartment by the sea. I still have the lighthouse light going through the rooms keeping me company at night. The same as it did at first light. Its all about moving on and not looking back.

“The best thing for sorrow is salt, be it tears, sweat or the sea”.
